'Support Nigeria with Technology, Not Threats' – Kwankwaso to Trump

Former Presidential candidate and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has stated that Nigeria needs technological assistance from the United States (US) and not threats.

Kwankwaso's statement on Sunday came after US President, Donald Trump described Nigeria as a "country of particular concern,"  further directed the country's Department of War, recently renamed from the Department of Defense, to "prepare for possible action."

"I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!" he had wrote.

Responding, the Former Kano State Governor said: "I have noted with increasing concern the heightened pronouncements on Nigeria by President Donald Trump. This follows his designation of Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern.'

"The United States should assist the Nigerian authorities with better cutting-edge technology to tackle these problems, rather than posing a threat that could further polarise our country," he said.

He believed that Nigeria remains a sovereign nation grappling with security challenges caused by criminals, not religious or ethnic groups.

"The insecurity we face does not distinguish based on religious, ethnic, or political beliefs," he said.

He further advised the Nigerian government to adopt diplomatic measures to engage Washington on the matter.

"The Nigerian government should also consider appointing special envoys from its distinguished diplomats to engage the American government. Additionally, it is necessary to appoint permanent ambassadors to represent Nigeria’s interests on the international stage," he said.

Kwankwaso also appealed to Nigerians to remain united despite external pressures and internal challenges.

"To my fellow countrymen, this is an important moment where we should emphasise unity of belonging over division. God bless Nigeria," he said.
