'Should Africa Invade America Over #BlackLivesMatter?' — Soludo Replies Trump

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has questioned the logic behind United States (US) President Donald Trump’s threat to launch military action against Nigeria, saying it would be as absurd as African nations invading America over racial killings.

"I am not quite sure if you have policemen killing some blacks. I remember the #BlackLivesMatter protest, and somebody would say maybe Africa should go and invade America because blacks are being killed? I’m not quite sure," Soludo said during a media chat on Sunday.

The former Central Bank governor was reacting to Trump’s recent statement on Truth Social, where the US president threatened to carry out military attacks in Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.

Soludo dismissed Trump’s remarks as a distortion of the country’s realities, stressing that Nigeria’s security problems go far beyond religion.

"The issues in Nigeria are not simply about Christians and Muslims. I think there is a need for deeper conversation. It must end in dialogue, and I am sure the government of Nigeria will respond robustly," he said.

He warned that external threats could worsen tensions, urging the Nigerian government instead to pursue constructive engagement and substantive dialogue to tackle insecurity.

"If Nigeria seeks foreign assistance, it should be through formal requests for military support, technology, or equipment, not through threats or invasion," Soludo added.

The governor further asserted that while the United States had the right to share opinions on global affairs, any intervention must respect Nigeria’s sovereignty and international law.

"As a country, America can have its views about what happens elsewhere. But when it comes to what it does, it must act within the realm of international law."

In a post on Saturday, Trump claimed that the US "may very well go into that now disgraced country, guns-a-blazing, to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities," referring to alleged killings of Christians in Nigeria.

He said he had instructed the "Department of War" to prepare for possible action and warned that America would cut off all assistance to Nigeria if the government "continues to allow the killing of Christians."

Trump also announced that Nigeria would be added to the US State Department’s list of "Countries of Particular Concern," which monitors global religious persecution.
