Senate Halts Confirmation of Tinubu’s Minister Nominee

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday suspended the confirmation of Kingsley Udeh as a minister following the absence of a mandatory security clearance.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the decision during plenary, explaining that the chamber could not proceed with Udeh’s confirmation until the required security report on the nominee was received.

"The confirmation of the minister-nominee would have been next on the list, but we need security clearance,"  Akpabio said.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier, on Tuesday, sought the Senate’s approval for Udeh’s appointment as minister.

The request, contained in a letter read by Akpabio during plenary, urged lawmakers to confirm the nominee, who hails from Enugu State.

However, the Senate maintained that it would not act on the nomination until all procedural and security requirements were met.
