Security Adviser, Service Chiefs Hold Closed-Door Meeting in Abuja

The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, is currently presiding over a high-level security meeting with service chiefs and heads of intelligence agencies in Abuja, amid growing fears following comments by  United States (US) President Donald Trump.

Although the agenda of the closed-door session remains undisclosed, sources suggest that it may be connected to Trump’s recent directive to the "Department of War" to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria.

Round Reports had earlier reported that Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform on Saturday, accused the Nigerian government of allowing the "killing of Christians" and warned that America would halt all aid to the country if the alleged persecution persisted.

"If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the USA will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now-disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing'," Trump wrote, threatening a swift and "vicious" response against what he described as Islamic terrorists.

The remarks have since stirred diplomatic unease and prompted calls for caution in Abuja’s response.

Ribadu is expected to brief newspaper editors and senior media executives after the meeting to address the situation and clarify Nigeria’s security position.

Earlier, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, confirmed that the NSA and service chiefs would issue a coordinated statement to "provide adequate response to the allegations of genocide and update the public on government efforts to contain insecurity and other vices."
