Rivers Police Deny Viral Video Claim of Herdsmen Attack

The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed a viral social media video alleging that Fulani herdsmen attacked communities in the state but were repelled by Ijaw youths.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the video was fabricated by individuals seeking to incite fear and disrupt the peace currently enjoyed across Rivers State.

No incident, report, or intelligence suggests that Fulani herdsmen have attacked any community in Rivers State,” she said, adding that the narrative represented a deliberate attempt by mischief makers to undermine prevailing stability.

The police urged residents to disregard the viral content and refrain from sharing unverified information that could provoke unnecessary tension or tarnish the state’s image.

Iringe-Koko reassured the public that the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains fully committed to safeguarding lives and property.

Robust security measures are in place, including operational patrol teams, surveillance units, and tactical squads,” she said, insisting that the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju prioritises transparent and accountable policing.

Members of the public were advised to remain calm, vigilant, and to verify information through official channels before dissemination.
