Pregnant Woman, Children, Nursing Mothers Abducted in Kwara

A wave of terror swept through Isapa community in the Ekiti Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara State on Monday evening as armed men stormed the town, abducting a pregnant woman, 10 children, two nursing mothers and several others.

The assault, which occurred at about 6pm on 24 November, saw an estimated 20 to 30 attackers descend on the community, firing indiscriminately as they advanced with a large herd of cattle.

Residents said the gunmen moved through several parts of the town, leaving walls and doors riddled with bullet holes.

Dozens of expended AK-47 shells were later recovered and an elderly woman was hit by a stray bullet during the attack.

Local reports, including those by National Pilot, indicated that 11 people were taken, among them seven members of the same family.

Those abducted include Talatu Kabiru, Magaji, Kande, Hadiza, Mariam, Saima, Habibat, Fatima Yusufu, Sarah Sunday, who is pregnant, Lami Fidelis, a nursing mother, and Haja Na Allah.

A community leader confirmed the incident, describing the raid as “overwhelming” and warning that fear now grips surrounding settlements.

Isapa lies a short distance from Eruku, a nearby community that suffered a deadly attack days earlier.

In that incident, armed men stormed a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), killing three worshippers and abducting several others, including the pastor.

Witnesses in Eruku said the assailants burst into the church during a meeting and opened fire without warning.

Three people were killed instantly. They gathered others at gunpoint and marched them into the bush. We still don’t know the exact number taken,” a source said.

The attackers reportedly escaped through bush paths linking Eruku to neighbouring communities, prompting heightened security alerts across the region.

Meanwhile, Kwara State authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the Isapa abductions, but community members say they fear further attacks unless urgent measures are taken to secure the area.
