A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday announced the expulsion of three serving governors.
RoundReports understood that the affected governors include Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, alongside several senior party figures.
The decisions were ratified at the 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, where the faction also dissolved party executives in Oyo, Bauchi, Ekiti, Zamfara, Edo and Lagos States.
Those expelled include former Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara; former Minister, Senator Kabiru Tanimu Turaki; Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja; and several others accused of anti-party activities.
Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, who presented the disciplinary memo, said the affected members had openly disregarded court judgments, an action he argued had damaged the party’s reputation and constitutional order.
The NEC communiqué, read by National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, stated that the meeting was convened to restore "unity, stability and constitutional order" at a time Nigerians were looking to the PDP for direction.
The statement said NEC was concerned by the conduct of members who "violated subsisting court orders by organising and attending a purported and unauthorized convention," which allegedly fuelled confusion, factionalisation and a wave of defections by governors and lawmakers.
NEC said it considered reports detailing breaches of Articles 58(1) and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution involving anti-party activities, disobedience to court orders and conduct capable of bringing the party into disrepute.
It approved disciplinary procedures against a list of senior party members, including former governors Udom Emmanuel and Olabode George; former National Youth Leader Mohammed Kadade Suleiman; and others.
The committee further directed Chief Ali Odefa, previously expelled in December 2024, to refund all salaries and allowances received afterwards, while also ratifying Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck as Acting National Vice Chairman (South-East).
NEC dissolved the executive committees in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos and Ekiti States, directing the National Working Committee (NWC) to set up caretaker committees and organise fresh congresses, but approved the Edo State executive led by Barrister Nosa Ogieva.
The meeting endorsed the elevation of all deputy officers into vacant national positions in an acting capacity and formally confirmed Abdulrahman as the Acting National Chairman.
NEC also instructed the party’s legal team to begin constitutional processes to reclaim seats held by elected officials who defected, in line with Sections 68(1)(g) and 109(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution.
A nationwide reconciliation drive and membership revalidation exercise is expected to begin ahead of the 2027 polls, with NEC insisting that reconciliation "must not undermine discipline."
The communiqué concluded that the era of impunity within the party had ended, adding that the PDP would rebuild itself with "unity, discipline and renewed purpose" as it prepares for the next electoral cycle.
