Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has asked Senate President Godswill Akpabio to assist in ensuring that former governor Godwin Obaseki returns to the state to answer what he described as "vital questions" over alleged financial mismanagement and poor governance.
Okpebholo made the appeal on Monday during the commissioning of a new fleet of agricultural machinery procured by the state government ahead of the next farming season.
Akpabio, who led a delegation of senators to inaugurate the tractors, bulldozers and other equipment intended to boost food production, was met with the call from the governor to support efforts to make the former leader account for his stewardship.
Addressing the crowd, Okpebholo said his administration was committed to strengthening food security and supporting farmers, adding that the newly acquired machinery would help improve output as preparations begin for the coming planting season.
In his remarks, the Senate President praised Okpebholo’s performance within his first year in office, describing him as a unifier and urging Edo residents to rally behind the government’s development agenda.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Osagie Ize-Iyamu and the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly also commended the governor for what they said were early strides in office.
Akpabio later joined other dignitaries to formally inaugurate the agricultural equipment.
