Nigeria has formalised a partnership with the United Arab Emirates (UAE)'s Digital School to expand access to digital education and practical skill development for millions of young Nigerians.
According to reports, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in Dubai, formalises a partnership between Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the UAE Digital School, an initiative under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI).
The signing ceremony was led by Nigeria’s Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, and Dr Waleed Al Ali, Executive Director of the UAE Digital School.
Interestingly, the agreement follows a series of high-level engagements in July 2025 between Nigerian officials and UAE development partners.
It will see the integration of the UAE Digital School’s resources into Nigeria’s own Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), a platform designed to provide young people with future-ready skills and digital literacy.
Speaking at the event, Olawande described the partnership as "more than a signed document," calling it "a promise to equip Nigerian youth with the skills, tools, and opportunities they need to thrive in a fast-changing digital world."
He added that the collaboration symbolised "shared responsibility, shared progress, and shared hope" between the two nations.
The initiative is expected to deliver a wide range of online courses, vocational training, and digital literacy programmes tailored to the needs of Nigerian youth.
Furthermore, it aims to bridge the digital divide and empower young people with the competencies required to compete in the 21st-century workforce.
Dr Al Ali, representing the UAE Digital School, showed optimism about the partnership’s potential to transform lives.
"This collaboration reflects our shared belief in the power of education to unlock opportunities and drive sustainable development," he said.
The Ministry of Youth Development noted that the MoU aligns with Nigeria’s broader strategy to harness technology for national development and youth empowerment.
It also mentioned the country’s commitment to international cooperation in tackling educational and economic challenges.
The UAE Digital School, launched in 2020, has been at the forefront of delivering quality digital education to underserved communities across the Middle East and Africa.
