ISWAP Reacts to Trump’s Threat of Military Action in NigeriaThe Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has reportedly responded to a recent threat by United States (US) President Donald Trump to initiate military action in Nigeria.
Trump, who had designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, was said to have directed the US Department of War to prepare for possible intervention over alleged cases of genocide against Christians in the country.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the development on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, ISWAP issued a "propaganda message" on its regular communication platforms in reaction to Trump’s statement.
In the message, the insurgent group allegedly branded Trump a "reckless American tyrant," accusing him of being influenced by "evangelical Christian and Jewish advisers" during his administration.
Makama stated that the extremists claimed Trump’s comments reflected an attempt by the US to position itself as a "global defender of Christians," a stance they described as hypocritical.
He added that the group further warned its members against using smartphones, attending large gatherings, or engaging in unnecessary movement, apparently as a precaution against possible surveillance or strikes.
ISWAP also called on Muslims across West Africa to "unite" in response to the perceived US threat, accusing Western nations of committing "crimes against African Muslims."
The development comes amid renewed international debate over religious freedom and security challenges in parts of Nigeria’s North-East region, where ISWAP remains active.
