FCTA to Conduct Computer-Based Promotion Exams for 8,000 Civil Servants

More than 8,000 civil servants under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) are expected to sit for computer-based promotion examinations from Tuesday, 25 November, the Administration has announced.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, said the tests would be held for staff across 165 cadres in both the FCTA and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).

It added that the five-day exercise will run until Saturday, 29 November, at the National Open University Study Centre on Kubwa Road, Abuja.

Ezeh revealed the exercise forms part of ongoing reforms aimed at digitising the promotion process across the public service in the territory.

The promotion examinations are scheduled to hold for five days, starting from Tuesday, November 25 to Saturday, November 29, 2025.

This continues the newly introduced computer-based system earlier approved by the FCT Minister,” he said.

The new round of examinations comes three months after the Administration released results from the first computer-based promotion test, conducted on 12 August. At the time, 49 deputy directors were elevated to the rank of director, following approval by Minister Nyesom Wike.

According to the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and News Media, Lere Olayinka, that exercise was designed to clear outstanding promotion cases between 2023 and 2025 for officers on Grade Level 16.

Ezeh said the Minister has also authorised the swift conclusion of the 2024 promotion cycle, extending the digital process to all cadres.

The FCT Minister, as part of staff motivation, approved the Commission’s request to quickly conclude the 2024 promotion exercise for FCT and FCDA workers,” the statement added.

He explained that the Administration is now fully committed to a technology-driven system for assessing and promoting its workforce, describing the computer-based approach as central to ongoing reforms.
