BREAKING: Nasarawa Police Debunk Rumours of Kidnap at St Peter’s Academy

The Nasarawa State Police Command has debunked reports of a kidnapping at St Peter’s Academy in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area, describing the claims that spread across social media on Friday as “totally false.”

According to reports, the clarification followed a voice chat facilitated by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhel Nansel, with the school proprietor, Peters Ezegwoya, on Friday, 21 November.

Ezegwoya explained that the alarm began after students heading to the school field for a Physical and Health Education lesson reported sighting armed hunters in the area.

He added that teachers immediately accompanied the pupils back to the school premises.

The proprietor clarified that some students later exaggerated the encounter, claiming they had seen kidnappers, prompting widespread fear among parents.

In an exclusive chat with TVC News Digital, Ezegwoya confirmed that no child was missing. “Although some students went home due to the panic, none of them have been reported missing,” he said, assuring the public that all pupils were safe.

It is a rumour. One of the students raised a false alarm during a Physical and Health Education practical, and others went on to spread the claim that a kidnap had taken place. It is all rumour and totally false,” he said.

The Police Command later issued a formal statement to further dispel the speculation, saying the report alleging that two pupils had been abducted during sporting activities was inaccurate.

He said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately deployed a joint team of police operatives and military personnel to the school after the claim emerged at about 10:00 am on Friday.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that the pupils had sighted some hunters carrying Dane guns and, out of fear, fled, mistaking them for kidnappers,” the statement said.

Ezegwoya further confirmed to operatives that the alarm was false and that the area was searched, and normalcy restored.
