Celebrity nightlife promoter Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chief Priest, has called on the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, to convene South-East leaders and push for the release of detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
In a post on his X handle on Friday, Okechukwu linked mounting tensions and insecurity in the region to Kanu’s continued detention, stressing that stability needed to be restored.
He maintained that the IPOB leader posed no threat to the country.
“We need peace in the South-East. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has never been a terrorist and has never been a harmful man. He has only asked for good governance in our region,” he wrote.
He urged the Deputy Speaker to bring together political, traditional, and cultural figures to address the issue and press for Kanu’s freedom.
“Deputy Speaker Kalu, use your office to assemble South-East elites and secure his release. As far as I’m concerned, he is the best among every freedom fighter I have seen in my life,” Okechukwu added.
Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services since June 2021, with court cases and political negotiations over his fate continuing to shape debates across the region.
