The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed 20 November for judgment in the terrorism trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Justice James Omotosho announced the date on Friday after Kanu failed to open his defence within the six days allotted by the court.
The judge ruled that Kanu, having been given ample opportunity to present his case, could not claim to have been denied a fair hearing.
Kanu, however, filed a fresh motion challenging the legality of his trial. He argued that terrorism was no longer recognised as an offence under Nigerian law following the repeal of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act.
He stressed that the charges against him were invalid and urged the court to dismiss the case and order his release.
