Avoid Inducements During Election, NYSC DG Warns Corps Members in Anambra

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has cautioned Corps Members deployed as ad-hoc staff for Saturday’s Anambra State governorship election to steer clear of all forms of inducement and partisanship.

Addressing the Corps Members in Awka, the state capital, Nafiu reminded them that their participation in the election was a national duty that required neutrality and integrity.

"The NYSC is non-partisan. Your involvement in the electoral process is not to serve political interests but to serve Nigeria. You must remain impartial and uphold the values of discipline, honesty and patriotism," he said.

The DG described the exercise as a unique opportunity for the Corps Members to contribute to nation-building, adding that the Scheme had earned commendations for its previous roles in population census, elections, immunisation drives, and other national programmes.

He praised the Corps Members for their dedication and willingness to serve, urging them to see their participation as part of a collective effort to strengthen democracy.

"We must come together, volunteer and stay committed to making Nigeria great. All eyes are on you as educated, disciplined and patriotic young Nigerians," he said.

General Nafiu further warned the Corps Members against compromising electoral laws, stressing that their personal safety must remain a priority.

"The first thing is your personal security, and you must take it very seriously. We have secured assurances from the state government, security agencies and political parties that your safety and property will be protected," he said.

He urged them to operate strictly within the guidelines provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and to maintain constant communication with security officials in their assigned areas.

"Do not give us any reason to doubt your competence, integrity or patriotism," he said.
