A violent clash has erupted between Nigerian Army personnel and police officers assigned to election duty in Anambra State, leaving several policemen injured.
The incident occurred on Sunday along Onitsha Road when a disagreement broke out between the two security agencies at a military checkpoint. Eyewitnesses said the altercation quickly escalated, leading to gunfire.
“While returning from election duty in Anambra, we had a misunderstanding with some soldiers at a checkpoint,” one police officer told SaharaReporters. “Before we knew what was happening, they opened fire. One of our colleagues was shot in the chest, and several others were injured.”
The source added that the situation degenerated into chaos as police officers called for reinforcements to the scene.
No official statement has yet been issued by either the Nigerian Army or the police authorities regarding the confrontation.
