A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has called for the immediate dismissal of the soldier who engaged in a heated confrontation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, during an inspection in Abuja.
RoundReports earlier reported the altercation captured in a viral video, which was said to have occurred when the soldier blocked Wike and officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from accessing a disputed parcel of land.
The soldier, said to be acting on orders, refused to allow the minister entry, sparking a tense verbal exchange between both sides.
A few hours later, the incident stirred public debate over the relationship between civil authorities and security personnel, with many questioning the boundaries of military involvement in administrative matters.
Reacting via his Facebook page, Igbokwe condemned the soldier’s actions, describing them as gross insubordination and a direct affront to constituted authority.
"Who is this man in uniform? Of what meat is he fed? Who is beating the drum for him? This is unacceptable.
"His uniform has to be removed. The young officer has no respect for constituted authority," he said.
He urged the Nigerian Army to take disciplinary action against the soldier, identified as Lt Yarima, warning that failure to do so could embolden similar acts of defiance in future engagements between security agencies and government officials.
