Agbedi to be Honoured with Street Naming in Abuja

The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has approved the naming of a street after Fred Agbedi, the lawmaker representing Sagbama–Ekeremor Federal Constituency, in recognition of his long-standing contributions to democratic governance and national development.

The honour follows a formal communication from the AMAC Street Naming and House Numbering Office, which confirmed that the veteran legislator was unanimously selected for what it described as a distinction reserved for national figures whose work has “significantly shaped the country’s growth.

According to the Council, Agbedi’s nomination was based strictly on merit, reflecting his record of public service, leadership and policy impact over several decades. It cited his “visionary and patriotic stewardship” as central to the decision.

Agbedi previously chaired the House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, where he led reforms aimed at strengthening grassroots administration and improving governance across the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory.

His work in the role was credited with enhancing transparency, boosting oversight functions and supporting rural development.

As Chairman of the House Committee on Special Duties, Agbedi continues to play a key role in coordinating federal emergency responses, strategic interventions and national welfare programmes.

Legislative colleagues and policy analysts often describe him as one of the most experienced and dependable voices in the National Assembly.

AMAC stated that street-naming within the capital is reserved for individuals whose legacy warrants permanent public recognition.

The intent behind naming streets after achievers is to immortalise their efforts and appreciate their special contributions to the nation,” the Council said.
