Service of Songs Held in Port Harcourt for Late Arise TV Reporter

A wave of emotion swept through Corpus Christi Cathedral in D/Line, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday evening as mourners gathered to honour the late Arise TV correspondent, Somtochukwu "Sommie" Maduagwu.

The service of songs drew a solemn crowd of family members, colleagues, friends, and well-wishers, united in grief and reflection over the loss of the 29-year-old journalist and lawyer whose life was tragically cut short during a robbery at her Abuja residence last month.

Delivering the sermon, Rev Father Eze Charles urged attendees to find strength in the legacy Maduagwu left behind.

"Death is inevitable but what matters is the impact we make. Sommie was a generous woman of faith, a soldier of the Cross," he said.

Father Charles stressed the importance of living a life of purpose, asking the congregation to reflect on how they would be remembered.

"Nigeria, the whole world is bleeding because of Sommie," he added, describing her as a beacon of goodness and integrity.

Rev Father Martin Amadi, Cathedral Administrator, echoed the sentiments, calling Maduagwu "a bright and shining light" and "the star of her family." He offered prayers for comfort and healing to her loved ones.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Osi Maduagwu thanked the church and community for their support, requesting continued prayers during this difficult time.

Maduagwu’s death has reverberated across Nigeria’s media and legal circles, where she was admired for her professionalism and advocacy. Her funeral is scheduled for October 18 in her hometown in Anambra State.
