The House of Representatives Committee on Industry has pledged to enhance Nigerians' access to affordable vehicle financing, aiming to boost the country’s automotive sector.
Committee members plan to summon key stakeholders, including the Bank of Industry (BoI), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) to review the automotive finance scheme and facilitate easier access to funds for purchasing new vehicles.
The announcement came during an oversight visit by the NADDC to local vehicle assembly plants in Lagos and Ogun States, including Proforce Limited in Ogun State and Toyota Nigeria Limited in Lagos.
Committee Chairman Dr Enitan Badru praised Proforce for producing defence equipment to international standards and exporting from Nigeria.
"They are doing something that should be emulated. My observation of this facility is very encouraging. They are not only meeting high-quality standards but are also contributing to exports, which shows that their operations can serve as a model for others," Badru said.
He further urged continuous innovation, noting the fast-paced technological landscape and the need for constant upgrades in defence manufacturing.
"AI and other advanced technologies are rapidly evolving. Facilities like Proforce must continually upgrade to stay ahead," he added.
NADDC Director-General Joseph Osanipin also commended Proforce’s contributions, stressing the company’s innovation and international recognition.
He pointed out Proforce’s comprehensive training programmes for military and security personnel, covering areas beyond driving, and noted the firm’s integration of AI into its operations.
"We know that enquiries also come; they normally receive enquiries even outside this continent. That shows that other countries are taking note of what Proforce is doing.
"We are very proud of them. We know what other challenges they have. It is beyond what I have observed now; we have a lot of standards. But even with those challenges, they are producing world-class security vehicles, and this is kudos to them.
"We have to appreciate the effort they are putting in and the level they have gotten to. They are not only producing, they are doing a lot of training for different kinds of military personnel — both Police, Navy, Army, Air Force, and many others, even private security personnel. They do training for them, and the training covers a lot of things apart from driving. They are already into AI, which shows that they are innovative, and that’s what has been keeping them. Not only are they producing, they are innovative and good at what they are doing," he said.
