Police Convict 59 Foreign Nationals in Abuja

The Nigeria Police Force (NPN) has announced the conviction of 59 foreign nationals linked to a sophisticated international cybercrime syndicate operating out of Abuja.

On Thursday, Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin the development is a major breakthrough in the ongoing efforts of the National Cybercrime Centre to dismantle organized digital crime networks threatening Nigeria’s cybersecurity infrastructure.

Hundeyin said the syndicate was first exposed during a coordinated police operation on November 3, 2024, following actionable intelligence.

Explaining the success of the arrest, he revealed that officers raided a property in the Jahi district of Abuja, apprehending 130 suspects.

Among those arrested were 113 foreign nationals, primarily from China and Malaysia, and 17 Nigerians.

He disclosed that investigators uncovered evidence of large-scale internet fraud, advanced hacking schemes, and other illicit cyber activities.

Following months of forensic analysis and legal proceedings, 21 individuals were convicted in August 2025, followed by five more in September.

The latest batch of 59 convictions brings the total number of convicted suspects to 85. Trials for the remaining individuals are still underway, police insisted.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, praised the convictions as a testament to the Force’s resolve in combating cybercrime.

Egbetokun vowed Nigeria won’t shelter cybercriminals and pledged continued use of advanced technology and global partnerships to fight digital crime.
