The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) has warned members of the public, particularly Niger Deltans, against making any form of payment for its scholarship scheme, insisting that the process is entirely free.
In a statement signed by Mr Igoniko Oduma, Special Assistant on Media to the Administrator, Dr Dennis Otuaro, the PAP stressed that both undergraduate and postgraduate scholarship applications do not attract any charges.
"The PAP does not accept or encourage payment in exchange for services, including placement of successful applicants into institutions for any academic year," the statement read.
The management added that the clarification became necessary following reports that some fraudulent individuals and self-acclaimed PAP stakeholders were extorting money from unsuspecting parents and guardians with fake promises of securing admission slots.
"We have warned against this fraudulent act before now. No applicant, parent, or guardian should pay money to anybody for the PAP scholarship programme. If you pay money to anybody, you do so at your own risk," the statement read.
The PAP further warned that anyone found involved in such illegal practices would face severe disciplinary action.
"The management of the PAP under the leadership of Dr Otuaro will not hesitate to take drastic measures against anybody caught involved in this nefarious act," the statement added.
