Bayelsa Set for Annual Thanksgiving Day as Solemn Assembly Begins Thursday

A special three-day programme tagged "Solemn Assembly," heralding the annual Bayelsa State Thanksgiving Day on 2 November, is set to begin on Thursday, 30 October 2025.

Governor Douye Diri made this known on Wednesday during the 175th session of the State Executive Council held at Government House, Yenagoa.

Diri said the event would take place daily at 4 pm at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall in Yenagoa.

Also, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Daniel Alabrah, the Governor explained that since 2012, 2 November has been designated by law as Bayelsa State Thanksgiving Day.

He stressed that the day was set aside for the government and people to show gratitude to God for His blessings upon the state.

The Governor attributed the prevailing peace, stability, and progress in Bayelsa to divine favour, saying that God has provided an enabling environment for his administration to fulfil its social contract with the people.

Urging Bayelsans to participate fully in the thanksgiving service, he said: "I like to remind us that we are at the time of the year when as a state we all come out to thank God for the creation of Bayelsa State for life as well as all the good things that God is doing for us."

"As we are happy and rejoicing about our gas turbines, some cannot wait to drive to Oporoma, Otuan, Brass, Peretorugbene, Ndoro and other communities. All of these infrastructure were made possible by the Almighty God

"I want all of us as Bayelsans to come out in our numbers on Sunday to appreciate and worship God," he added.

During the executive council meeting, Governor Diri also called for a minute’s silence in honour of the late Hon Nelson Belief, a former Commissioner for Special Duties (East), who also served as a member of both the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.

In addition, the Commissioner for Education, Dr Gentle Emelah, presented the Platinum Education Ambassador Award recently conferred on Governor Diri by Independent Newspapers.

The award, received on the Governor’s behalf by Emelah and Alabrah on 9 October in Lagos, was formally handed over to him at the council session.
