The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) has announced the opening of its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the Fund’s Director of Strategic Communications, the application window will run from October 23, 2025, to January 31, 2026.
NELFund advised newly admitted students to apply using their admission numbers or JAMB registration numbers, rather than their matriculation numbers, which may not yet have been issued.
The agency further appealed to tertiary institutions to exercise patience and flexibility in enforcing registration and tuition payment deadlines, especially for students awaiting loan disbursement.
"Institutional institutions are encouraged to show understanding in enforcing registration and fee flexibility payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursement," the statement read in part.
It also urged schools yet to commence their academic session to formally notify NELFund with their approved academic calendars, to allow for proper scheduling and processing of loan requests.
"NELFund appeals to all institutions to consider temporary registration measures for students whose loan applications are being processed, to ensure that no student loses access to education due to financial constraints," the statement added.
The student loan scheme, launched earlier in 2024, aims to provide financial assistance to Nigerian students enrolled in approved public tertiary institutions across the country.
