Senator representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko, has said he pities men who have only one wife, arguing that polygamy provides men with "stability and balance" in their homes.
The lawmaker made the remark on Sunday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed his personal life and views on marriage.
According to Nwoko, having more than one wife is "the ideal structure" for men, adding that he has no regrets about his own marital choices.
"That is a different topic for discussion on another day. Yes, every man should do that. The example I give is this: just imagine telling you to stand on one foot or leg. You know how difficult it is. But to stand on two, three, four is much more balanced. That’s just the example I give. So I feel sorry for those who have one wife because it’s difficult to stand on one leg," he said.
When asked about the biblical perspective on polygamy, Nwoko replied that the Old Testament supports it. "I am a man of faith. But that’s not what we are here for," he said.
The senator also dismissed allegations of domestic violence in his household. "No, come on. You know I am not a violent person. I respect my wives. I love them and my kids," he said.
The interview came shortly after his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, shared photos of a newly acquired mansion on Instagram.
"In my house, I am a Queen! I needed a roof over my head, so I got this for me and my family," she wrote.
Her post followed a viral video recorded on October 18, in which she appeared emotional and alleged abuse. "In Ned Nwoko’s house, I am nothing, but in my own house, I am a Queen. Not again. I can’t stand the violence; it’s too much," she said in the footage.
Nwoko and Regina Daniels, who married in 2019, have two children together. Their relationship has drawn public attention due to their age gap and the senator’s polygamous background.
The couple’s recent social media posts and the senator’s comments have reignited public interest and speculation about their marriage, though neither has issued an official joint statement on the matter.
