A Magistrate Court in Akure, Ondo State has ordered the remand of Ahmed Toheed, who allegedly raped and killed his 64-year-old grandmother, Mrs Mulikat Sanni, in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area.
Toheed was apprehended by the Ondo State Police Command following the alleged incident, which reportedly occurred on September 29, 2025, at Onisere Street, Ore.
During proceedings, police prosecutor Augustine Omhenimhen told the court that the suspect accused his grandmother of practicing witchcraft and blamed her for his misfortunes before strangling her and committing the alleged sexual assault.
"That you, Ahmed Toheed, on September 29, 2025, at about 10 pm, at Onisere Street, Ore, in the Ondo State Magisterial District, did unlawfully strangle one Mulikat Sanni, aged 64 years, to death, and did unlawfully have carnal knowledge of her, thereby committing offences contrary to and punishable under Sections 319 and 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006," the charge, as read in court, states:
It was revealed that although Toheed pleaded not guilty, the court did not formally take his plea.
The Prosecutor requested that he be remanded pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Meanwhile, defense counsel Benjamin Adeyanju sought an adjournment to file a counter-affidavit.
Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi subsequently ordered that Toheed be remanded at the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID), adjourning the case to October 13, 2025, for further hearing.
