Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, on Tuesday signed into law a N137 billion supplementary budget for the 2025 fiscal year, aimed at sustaining the state’s infrastructure drive and completing key ongoing projects.
The budget, recently approved by the Katsina State House of Assembly, earmarks N126.8 billion for capital expenditure and N10.2 billion for recurrent spending.
According to the governor, the additional funding became necessary as several Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) had exhausted their initial capital allocations due to the pace of project implementation across the state.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Radda thanked the legislature for the swift passage of the bill, praising their cooperation and commitment to state development.
"I commend the Honourable Speaker, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, and all members of the Katsina State House of Assembly for their swift legislative action on this critical bill. Your commitment to the development of our state is truly commendable," he said.
The Governor Radda insisted that the supplementary budget will focus heavily on completing infrastructure projects in roads, healthcare, education, water supply, and agriculture, assuring citizens that implementation will be guided by transparency and accountability.
During deliberations at the House, the Leader of the Assembly, Hon Shamsuddeen Abubakar Dabai, lauded the governor’s performance and described the supplementary proposal as timely, given the volume of completed and ongoing works across the state.
The budget was earlier referred to the Committee on Appropriations, which presented its report before the House passed the bill.
The signing ceremony was attended by key lawmakers, including the House Chief Whip, Hon Ibrahim Dikko Matazu, and the Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, Hon Lawal H Yaro.
