Edo Gov Insists Commissioners Must Wear ‘Asiwaju Cap’ to Exco Meetings

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has directed newly appointed commissioners to wear the signature ‘Asiwaju cap’ associated with President Bola Tinubu to all Executive Council meetings, warning that anyone who ignores the directive will be turned back.

Okpebholo issued the warning on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, during the swearing-in ceremony of 20 commissioners and members of various boards in Benin City.

He underscored his loyalty to President Tinubu, crediting the president’s support for the formation of his administration.

"This would not have been possible without a responsible President. We have had several elections here, and our biggest challenge was not having the President with us. You see this cap I’m wearing? I will not forgive any commissioner who isn’t wearing it. If you attend Exco in traditional attire without this Asiwaju cap, you are going back," he said.

He urged the appointees to uphold integrity and avoid any conduct that could tarnish the image of the government. stressing that his administration would not tolerate corruption or actions that undermine public trust.

The Governor further maintained that the appointments were made on merit, adding that the roles should not be viewed as political compensation.

"Your nominations are not rewards or patronage, but a call to serve the people of Edo State. Our administration is committed to practical governance that delivers real impact. We are focused on service delivery and tangible results, not propaganda," he said.
