Ange Postecoglou’s short-lived tenure at Nottingham Forest has officially ended, with the club announcing his dismissal just minutes after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground.
The Australian coach, appointed on September 9 to steady a faltering Forest side, lasted only 39 days in the role, making his stint one of the briefest in Premier League history.
During that time, Forest failed to register a single win in eight matches across all competitions, managing just two draws and suffering six defeats.
In a terse 39-word statement released shortly after the final whistle, the club said:
"Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The club will make no further comment at this time."
Postecoglou’s arrival was intended to inject stability following the early-season departure of Nuno Espírito Santo. Instead, Forest’s form deteriorated further.
Under his leadership, the team collected just one point from five league fixtures, slipping to 17th in the table, perilously close to the relegation zone.
Defensive frailties plagued Postecoglou’s side. Forest conceded 10 goals from set pieces and 16 goals within the first 10 minutes of second halves during his reign. Offensively, they managed just one goal in five league outings, citing a lack of bite in attack.
Losses to Arsenal, Sunderland, Newcastle United, and Chelsea compounded the pressure, while draws against Burnley and Real Betis offered little relief.
The final blow came on Saturday, as Chelsea netted three second-half goals, prompting Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis to leave his seat before full-time amid a chorus of departing fans.
Postecoglou departs with the ignominious distinction of being the first Nottingham Forest manager to go winless in his first eight matches.
The club now begins its search for a third manager this season, with former Burnley and Everton boss Sean Dyche reportedly among the candidates being considered.
