First Lady Calls for Unified Action to Empower Nigerian Girls

First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has called on Nigerians to unite in supporting the nation’s girls to break barriers and achieve their full potential.

In a message marking the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, commemorated globally on October 11, Mrs Tinubu stressed the need for collective responsibility in dismantling the barriers that hinder girls’ growth.

"Let us come together to support our girls to reach their maximum potential," the First Lady said.

She believed that such investment is not merely a social cause but a critical driver of national growth and sustainable development.

This year’s global theme, "The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis," framed the First Lady’s message.

According to her, the day serves as a stark reminder of the daily struggles endured by countless girls both within Nigeria and across the globe.

In a poignant tribute, Mrs Tinubu honoured the resilience of girls who persevere in the face of daunting adversity.

"To every brave girl striving to reach the classroom, walking miles for water, or carrying the quiet strength of displacement, you are seen, you are heard, and valued. Your courage lights the way to a brighter future," she said.

Reaffirming her personal commitment, the First Lady pledged to continue championing initiatives focused on protecting and empowering young girls.

She insisted that every investment made in a girl’s education, health, and safety has a ripple effect, ultimately strengthening families and constructing a more robust society.

"Today, on International Day of the Girl Child, let us remember the daily struggle of our girls," Mrs Tinubu said, concluding with a call to communities, families, and institutions to create safe environments where girls can freely 'dream, learn, and lead.' "
