The Federal Government has refuted recent media reports suggesting that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer a requirement for gaining admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
In a statement released on Thursday by the Federal Ministry of Education, the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa dismissed the reports as "entirely false and misleading," asserting that no such directive had been issued by the Ministry.
The Minister explained that the existing admission framework, which mandates the use of JAMB’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), remains fully in place.
"JAMB remains the only legally recognized body authorized to conduct entrance examinations and manage admissions into all tertiary institutions across the country," he said.
Reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to transparency and merit-based admissions, Dr Alausa maintained the government’s continued collaboration with JAMB and other relevant agencies to ensure fairness in the education sector.
He further cautioned media outlets and digital platforms against spreading unverified information, warning that such actions could disrupt the academic calendar and mislead prospective students.
"Stakeholders including students, parents, and institutions should rely solely on official communication from the Ministry and JAMB for accurate updates, he said.
Members of the public are encouraged to consult the official websites and verified social media handles of both the Ministry and JAMB for authentic updates on educational matters.
