Ekeremor RDA Chair Marks International Day of the Girl Child

The Chairman of the Ekeremor Rural Development Authority (RDA), Hon Mrs Deme Debra Pamosoo Esq, has joined global voices in celebrating the International Day of the Girl Child, urging society to recognise and invest in the potential of young girls.

In a statement to mark the occasion, Pamosoo extended her goodwill to all girls within the Ekeremor RDA and across the world, insisting that "every girl, everywhere, deserves equality, opportunity and dignity."

The year’s theme, "The Girl I Am, the Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis," explains the pivotal role girls are playing in addressing today’s most pressing challenges, from climate justice to ending violence and shaping their future.

She stated that, despite their resilience and leadership, many girls continue to face barriers, discrimination, and marginalisation.

The RDA Chair called for stronger commitment to policies and programmes that protect girls' rights and empower them to lead.

"As we mark 30 years since the Beijing Declaration, this day is a reminder to truly see girls—not just for the challenges they face, but for the solutions they bring. Girls are no longer waiting for a better world; they are building it," she said.

She urged stakeholders, leaders, and communities to take meaningful action by sharing girls’ stories and celebrating their achievements, and dvocating for policies that uphold girls’ rights.

According to her, stakeholders can create safe, girl-led spaces for learning and leadership, and also invest in programmes that support girls in crisis, including education, health, and mental well-being.

Pamosoo reaffirmed that investing in girls is a pathway to a more equitable and prosperous future.

"Let us join hands not just today, but every day, to uplift the girl child," she said.

The International Day of the Girl Child, proclaimed by the United Nations (UN) in 2011, continues to draw attention to the challenges faced by girls and the need to promote their empowerment and full participation in society.
