The Executive Chairman of Ekeremor Local Government Area, Hon. Onniye Isaac, has lauded Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the Government of Denmark for their joint effort in establishing the Ekeremor Youth Development Centre.
Hon. Onniye gave the commendation on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 during the official commissioning of the centre, which was jointly inaugurated by Governor Diri and the Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Jens Ole Bach Hansen.
The centre, a flagship initiative of UNODC with funding support from the Government of Denmark, aims to empower young people through skill acquisition, entrepreneurship training, and awareness against drug abuse and criminality.
Governor Diri, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Alfred Kemepado Nimizigha, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to youth empowerment and inclusive growth across all communities.
The event attracted several dignitaries, including the Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Faith Izibenua Zibs-Godwin; former Ekeremor Council Chairman, Hon. Christopher Enai; Technical Advisers to the Governor; RDA Chairmen; members of the Ekeremor Legislative Assembly led by Hon. Benni Nanabofa Sylvester; Political Secretary to the Council, Hon. Skelly Taibai; Supervisory Councillors, and other notable guests.
Hon. Onniye described the new centre as a "beacon of hope" for the people of Ekeremor, stressing that it aligns with Diri’s Prosperity Administration’s vision to promote human capital development and create sustainable opportunities for the youth.
