Those also granted bail include counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Aloy Ejimakor, and Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu.

Presiding Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’I’d issued the bail order on Friday after the defendants were arraigned on charges of unlawful assembly and disturbance of public peace.

In his ruling, Magistrate Sai’I’d granted bail to Sowore and the other protesters in the sum of N500,000 each, with conditions that they present a verified National Identification Number (NIN), provide a three-year tax clearance certificate, and submit their international passports.

Sowore was arrested on Thursday by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) shortly after leaving the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Sowore was arrested on Thursday by police officers shortly after he exited the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Videos of his arrest quickly spread across social media, prompting reactions from rights advocates and civic groups who criticised the move as an effort to silence voices of dissent.
