Bayelsa State has secured a landmark renewable energy initiative with the signing of an agreement to establish a solar panel manufacturing plant in the state.
The tripartite deal was inked on Tuesday at the 2025 Nigeria Renewable Energy Innovation Forum (NREIF) and held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
It involves the Federal Government’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the Bayelsa government, and J Marine Logistics Limited, a subsidiary of Dubai-based Jampur Group, which previously supplied the state’s 60MW gas turbines.
Governor Douye Diri signed the agreement on behalf of Bayelsa, while Jampur Group Chairman Mohammed Shafiq signed for the company.
The event was chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima and attended by Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu.
Under the pact, J Marine Logistics will finance and establish a 100MW renewable energy plant dedicated to solar panel manufacturing in Bayelsa.
The firm will also provide technical expertise, funding, and adherence to international best practices necessary to operate a high-efficiency solar module facility.
Bayelsa was selected for the project due to its strategic position as an industrial hub with supportive infrastructure, logistics, and a skilled workforce.
The state government will provide land, planning and construction permits, tax incentives, and access to essential infrastructure, including roads, water supply, power evacuation, and security.
Officials confirmed that work on the solar panel plant is expected to begin immediately.
