Bayelsa Seals Development Pact with African Diaspora

Bayelsa State has entered into a new development partnership with the State of Africa in Diaspora, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at boosting key sectors including education, healthcare and agriculture.

The agreement was sealed on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at the Government House in Yenagoa, with Governor Douye Diri signing on behalf of the state government and Dr Louis-Georges Tin, Prime Minister of the State of Africa in Diaspora, signing for the organisation.

Diri described the collaboration as an important step towards advancing development in Bayelsa and commended the African diaspora for investing in the continent’s progress.

"We have just witnessed the signing of an agreement. On behalf of our government and the people of our state, we thank you for this. From this moment, you are our development partner, and I hope the implementation can go on really fast," he said.

The Governor stressed the importance of Africans working together to reshape global narratives about the continent.

"We need to work together as Africans and tell the story of how Africans are developing Africa," he said, adding that the partnership would yield tangible results before his administration ends in 2028.

The Governor Diri disclosed that Bayelsa was committed to building sustainable ties that enhance capacity in critical sectors, particularly through diaspora expertise and resources.

Dr Tin, who represented the State of Africa in Diaspora, assured that the collaboration would focus on practical programmes to improve livelihoods and strengthen institutions within the state.
