In the lead-up to the International Day of the Girl Child, an Abuja-based legal practitioner, Barrister Crawford E. Toinpre, has launched the CTE Foundation in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, with a focus on mentorship, education and health advocacy for young girls.
At the launch, several students were awarded scholarships and had their West African Examination Council (WAEC) registration fees fully paid. Empowerment packs were also distributed to students from New Total Child Academy and St. Jude’s Girls Secondary School, Yenagoa.
Crawford, daughter of Dr. Helen Bob, Technical Adviser to Governor Douye Diri on Girl Child Development, said the foundation was established out of her desire to give back to society and address persistent challenges facing girls, particularly in access to quality education, menstrual hygiene and mentorship.
As part of the initiative, she made a financial contribution towards repairing a damaged borehole at St. Jude’s Girls Secondary School, Amarata, to restore access to clean water.
She encouraged the students to prioritise education and remain patient in their personal pursuits, warning against societal pressures that lead some young girls into harmful decisions.
Other speakers at the event urged the over 200 girls in attendance to remain focused, aim high and avoid social vices.
