APC National Chairman Launches 14-Day Free Medical Outreach, Business Grants in Plateau

Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, has launched a multi-million naira, 14-day free medical outreach in Plateau State, aiming to provide critical healthcare services to thousands.

The initiative, officially inaugurated on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), is a collaborative effort between Sharing Hope International Medical Mission, USA, and its Nigerian counterpart, supported personally by Prof. Nentawe.

The programme commenced with the arrival of a 31-man international medical team at the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Jos, where they were received by a high-profile delegation.

Prof. Nentawe was accompanied by former Deputy Senate President Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Idris Wase, former Senator Istifanus Dung Gyang, and the Chief Medical Director of JUTH, Dr. Pokop Bupwatda.

Speaking at the launch, Prof. Nentawe stated that the mission aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes the health and social well-being of citizens.

"This medical mission reflects our collective resolve to make quality healthcare accessible, especially to the less privileged. We must thank the Sharing Hope International Medical Mission for supporting this initiative. Already, we’ve attended to over 400 people, and now we are receiving essential medical equipment and experts from the U.S., France, and Canada to deepen the impact," Nentawe said.

He detailed that the outreach would offer a wide range of services, including medical consultations, surgeries, dental and eye care, gynecological and pediatric treatment, with all medicines provided at no cost.

Crucially, he stressed that the mission includes a capacity-building component for local healthcare workers.

"Our goal is not just to perform surgeries and leave, but to strengthen the capacity of Nigerian doctors, nurses, and health workers through hands-on training that will have a lasting impact," the Minister said.

In a parallel event focused on economic empowerment, Prof. Nentawe also disbursed N50 million in business grants to displaced women traders in the state under the Renewed Hope for GenerationNext Empowerment Program.

The event, held at the Millennial International Event Centre in Jos, saw N20 million distributed as direct cash grants to individual women traders. An additional N30 million was allocated to various cooperative groups to foster collective growth and enhance business resilience.

Beneficiaries at the event thanked the APC Chairman for his continued commitment to uplifting the vulnerable and supporting women's economic independence.

In his remarks, Nentawe reaffirmed his dedication to restoring livelihoods and reducing poverty in Plateau State, adding that both the medical outreach and the empowerment schemes are integral parts of the federal government's broader agenda to bring hope and tangible support to the people.
