Obama Presidential Center Museum Tickets Go On Sale Ahead of June Opening

Tickets for the long-awaited museum at the Obama Presidential Center have gone on sale, with strong early demand raising expectations of weekend sell-outs.

Timed entry tickets for the four-floor museum start at thirty dollars ($30) for adults.

The wider 19.3-acre campus in Jackson Park, Chicago, will be largely free to access when it opens to the public on June 19.

The centre includes a two-acre playground personally tested by former United States (US) president Barack Obama, a fruit and vegetable garden, public gathering spaces and a new branch of the Chicago Public Library with a dedicated reading room.

Built by the Obama Foundation since 2014, the project is reported to have cost around eight hundred and fifty million dollars ($850 million).

The privately run museum will provide digital access to President Obama’s records and archives.

Discounted tickets are available for Illinois residents, members of the military, educators and low-income visitors, according to organisers.

Announcing the opening online, Obama said he and former first lady Michelle Obama were looking forward to welcoming visitors to the centre, describing it as a space designed to encourage civic engagement.

"Michelle and I can't wait for you to visit the Obama Presidential Center!

"Starting on June 19, the Center will be open to the public, and you'll be able to check out the Museum along with public spaces like a new branch of the Chicago Public Library with a reading room, a two-acre playground, a fruit and vegetable garden, and more.

"Tickets available at tickets.obama.org," he said.

The Obama Presidential Center is located in Jackson Park on Chicago's South Side and is expected to become a massive cultural and tourist destination for the city once fully open.
