The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has introduced a new Smart Identity Card aimed at strengthening the professional identity and credibility of lawyers across the country.
Designed to serve as a secure and verifiable form of identification for legal practitioners, the digital credential will make confirmation of status in courts, conferences, and official engagements easier.
According to the NBA, the initiative shows the growing need for trust and efficiency in today’s professional environment.
"Whether you are appearing in court, attending conferences, or engaging with clients and agencies, this card positions you for seamless recognition and trust," the association said in a statement.
Under the scheme, lawyers called to the Bar within the last seven years will receive the card free of charge.

It added that applications can be submitted via the official portal at https://nba.alphacards.dev.
The NBA also advised that lawyers who applied on 22 or 23 April may need to reconfirm their applications using the same link.
It described the Smart ID Card as "a significant step toward a more secure, efficient and professionally distinguished Bar" and encouraged members to take part.
