The 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) brought Nollywood and the wider African film industry back under the spotlight on Saturday night, with a new hosting duo and a fiercely contested lineup.
Held under the theme "Honouring Craft, Celebrating Culture," the ceremony opened with a vibrant Cultural Night.
Stars including Omowunmi Dada, Uzor Arukwe and Stan Nze turned out in elaborate traditional regalia ahead of the main event.
After more than a decade, IK Osakioduwa stepped down as host, handing over to comedian Bovi Ugboma, known for his sharp wit.
He co-hosted with South African actress and humanitarian Nomzamo Mbatha, who brought a mix of continental poise and Shaka iLembe grit to the stage.
The jury, chaired by veteran actress Joke Silva, had a tough job.
Two films, Gingerrr and The Herd, led the nominations with nine each across 32 categories.
My Father’s Shadow emerged as the night’s biggest winner, taking Best Movie, Best Director for Akinola Davies Jr, Best Writing Movie for Wale Davies, and Best Cinematography for Kabelo Thathe.
