Socio-political activist Aisha Yesufu has lost the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial primary for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to party chieftain Amanda Pam.
Yesufu, who joined the race to represent the FCT in the Senate, said her campaign was driven by a desire to address problems in the capital and give residents a stronger voice in government.
She is a vocal supporter of NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi.
The result has triggered debate on social media, where Yesufu’s prominence online has become a focal point.
On Facebook, user Comrade Idris Omuya posted: “Aisha Yesufu lost out in the NDC FCT senatorial ticket primary to this woman. Where are her Twitter and Facebook fans?”

Another user, Evangelist Divine Vessel, wrote that Pam “has the structure and Aisha has the Twitter likes and Instagram comments, and elections are not won on social media.”
The post also criticised Yesufu’s media style, contrasting it with Pam’s local campaign approach.
However, the NDC has not yet issued an official statement on the outcome.
The primary was held as parties across Nigeria select candidates ahead of the next legislative elections.
Yesufu rose to national prominence during the #EndSARS protests and has remained an outspoken commentator on governance and human rights.
