Prominent political figure and former South-East spokesman to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr Denge Josef Onoh, has paid tribute to Niger Delta leader Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, on the occasion of his 55th birthday.
In a statement released to mark the milestone, Onoh described Tompolo as a symbol of courage, strategic foresight and steadfast commitment to his people, commending his enduring role in the Niger Delta struggle and broader national development.
Onoh pointed to Tompolo’s roots in the Gbaramatu Kingdom, saying that his rise from the creeks to national prominence reflects resilience and strong cultural grounding.
He admired Tompolo’s continued connection to tradition, including his annual visits to the sacred Aziza Forest, as evidence of respect for heritage and spirituality.
The former lawmaker also praised Tompolo’s transition from militancy to institutional engagement, particularly his leadership of Tantita Security Services.

According to Onoh, the firm has contributed to improved security around oil infrastructure, reduced economic sabotage and expanded employment opportunities for young people across the region.
"Your journey from the creeks to becoming a towering voice in the Niger Delta cause is the stuff of legends," Onoh said.
He added that Tompolo’s advocacy helped draw national attention to long-standing issues of marginalisation and resource control.
Beyond security, Onoh acknowledged Tompolo’s philanthropic activities and community development initiatives, describing his influence as extending well beyond the Niger Delta.
He said Tompolo’s leadership demonstrates that impact should be judged by measurable outcomes, including peace, empowerment and regional stability, and described him as a bridge-builder in Nigeria’s often polarised socio-political environment.
Onoh offered prayers for continued strength, wisdom and good health, believing that Niger Delta leader would sustain his contributions to peace and development.
