FG Declares May 1 Public Holiday for International Workers’ Day


The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday to mark International Workers’ Day.

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.

The Minister congratulated Nigerian workers and acknowledged their contribution to national development.

He encouraged workers to remain committed to productivity, patriotism, and dedication to duty.

Tunji-Ojo stated that the government remains committed to improving workers’ welfare and creating an enabling environment for economic growth.

He also called on Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding, saying the importance of unity and hard work in nation-building.

"The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st May 2026, a public holiday to celebrate this year’s International Workers Day.

"The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced this on behalf of the Federal Government. He congratulated workers across the country on this year’s celebration," the statement partly read.
