Democrats Urge Emergency Impeachment of Trump

Senate Democrats are pressing Congress to reconvene urgently to impeach President Donald Trump after he warned that “a whole civilisation will die tonight” in reference to Iran.

Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts was among the first to demand immediate action, telling CNN that Trump’s comments amounted to planning war crimes.

Congress must come back in session and impeach Donald Trump,” he said.

Senator Andy Kim of New Jersey echoed the call, declaring Trump “unfit to be Commander-in-Chief” and insisting he had lost the trust of the American people.

According to reports, the push for impeachment has gathered momentum since Trump launched military operations against Iran, a conflict that has already claimed American lives and reshaped the political climate in Washington.

More than 60 Democratic lawmakers, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Jamie Raskin, Pramila Jayapal and Nancy Pelosi, have joined the demand for his removal.

Representative Sara Jacobs warned the Joint Chiefs of Staff to resist unlawful orders, saying on X: “The President just threatened genocide. We must consider all options, including impeachment.”

Representative Julie Johnson of Texas went further, urging the 25th Amendment be invoked, describing Trump’s behaviour as “insane” and “deranged.”

Senator Chris Murphy argued that Trump had “lost his grip on reality,” warning in a Substack post that the president was pursuing a war he could not win.

Representative Joaquin Castro also appealed directly to Trump’s Cabinet to act under the 25th Amendment.

It was said that Trump’s approval ratings have slumped to 39 per cent, the lowest of his second term, with a majority of Americans now supporting impeachment according to a new poll.

Yet despite the growing pressure, Democrats lack the numbers in either chamber to remove him.

The House requires a simple majority to impeach, while conviction in the Senate demands two-thirds support, an outcome unlikely in a Republican-controlled Congress.

Checks revealed this would mark Trump’s third impeachment attempt as his previous two trials ended in acquittal, including the post-January 6 proceedings that drew 57 Senate votes but fell short of the threshold.

Representative John Larson had summed up the mood among Democrats, saying Trump’s “illegal war in Iran” had cost lives and destabilised the economy.

He’s becoming more unstable by the day,” Larson added.

Trump, meanwhile, dismissed the calls at a rally, mocking Democrats for “doing it again” and questioning what he had done to warrant impeachment.

While the effort is unlikely to succeed legislatively, Democrats believe the campaign could weaken Trump’s standing among Republicans and shape the battle for control of Congress in 2026, reports added.
