Netflix Ends Support For PlayStation 3

Netflix has confirmed that its streaming service will no longer run on Sony’s PlayStation 3 from today, 2 March, 2026, ending a near two, decade partnership with the ageing console.

RoundReports reports that users attempting to access the app are being met with a notification stating, “Unfortunately, Netflix will no longer be available on this device after 2 March 2026. Visit netflix.com/compatible devices to see a list of supported devices.”

The decision has sparked a wave of nostalgia and frustration online as one user on X termed the move as an “end of an era,” and that “PS3 really carried streaming and gaming before it was cool. Respect to the OG”

Another quipped: “Netflix survived three console generations and said I’m tired boss.”

On Reddit, longtime viewers voiced their disappointment. One wrote: “Netflix on PS3 was the only way I could still share Netflix to my dad even though we live in different countries.”

However, others praised the console’s simplicity, citing the absence of adverts and location tracking.

Launched in November 2006, the PlayStation 3 sold more than 87 million units worldwide.

For many, it became not just a gaming machine but a gateway to streaming, helping Netflix establish itself in living rooms long before smart TVs became commonplace.

The PS3 is not the only device losing support. According to Flatpanels HD, smart TVs more than a decade old will also be cut off, alongside several set–top boxes including the BT TV Box (Z4) and BT TV Recordable Box (G4).

Netflix has reassured customers that plenty of options remain, insisting that the service can still be accessed via newer smart TVs, smartphones, tablets, streaming sticks, modern consoles, or directly through a web browser.

For loyal PS3 users, however, today marks the end of a chapter. As one fan put it bluntly: “No way. PS3 is my CRT Netflix machine! What do I do now?”
