DisCos Generated N207bn from Power Bills in December

Electricity distribution companies in Nigeria generated N207.49 billion in revenue from customers in December 2025, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

According to NERC, the figure was realised from a total billing of N258.66 billion issued to electricity consumers during the month.

NERC said the amount collected in December represented a marginal decline of 0.02 per cent from the N208.78 billion recorded in November 2025.

The report also showed that overall electricity billing fell by about four per cent, compared with the N269.43 billion billed in the previous month.

Despite the drop in billing, the commission disclosed a slight improvement in collection efficiency.

Distribution companies recovered 80.22 per cent of billed revenue in December, up from 77.49 per cent in November, indicating a modest gain in payment recovery.

In its Commercial Performance Factsheet, NERC revealed, the total value of energy received by distribution companies during the period stood at N309.65 billion, representing a 9.54 per cent decrease from the N342.29 billion recorded in November.

In terms of revenue recovery performance, Eko Electricity Distribution Company recorded the highest rate at 99.45 per cent, reflecting near-full recovery of its allowable revenues for the month.

Other distribution firms with strong recovery performance included Yola Electricity Distribution Company at 87.89 per cent, Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company at 85.32 per cent, and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company at 84.43 per cent.

Meanwhile, Benin Electricity Distribution Company posted a recovery rate of 71.36 per cent, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company recorded 73.19 per cent, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company achieved 73.50 per cent, while Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company recovered 79.29 per cent of billed revenue.

NERC stated that the data provides insight into how efficiently electricity distribution companies bill customers, collect payments and recover revenues.

These, it added, were key indicators for improving liquidity and strengthening service delivery across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.
