Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has been installed as the Utukpa Oritse of the Warri Kingdom, a traditional title interpreted as “The Light of God.”
The honour was conferred by the Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, during a one-day homecoming visit by the First Lady to her Itsekiri maternal roots in Delta State on Thursday.
Speaking at the ceremony, the monarch described Mrs Tinubu as a pride of the Itsekiri nation and that the recognition reflected her national influence and public impact.
The installation drew a high-profile audience, including Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside traditional rulers from across the country.
They were led by the Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, who recently installed the First Lady as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua.
State House correspondent Adeniyi Taiwo reported that the ceremony exposed the rich cultural heritage and enduring traditions of the Itsekiri people.
