Five Killed in Late-Night Attack on Plateau Community – Police

The Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, Bassey Ewah, has confirmed that five members of a family were killed during a late-night attack in Bassa Local Government Area (LGA).

Ewah described the incident as tragic and assured residents that security operatives are pursuing the perpetrators.

He explained that the attack occurred on Thursday night when gunmen stormed a residential area in Miango.

Police, he added, responded promptly after receiving a distress call and have since deployed additional personnel to the area.

"Our men responded swiftly to the distress call and have since been deployed to the area

"We are currently on the trail of the attackers and will not relent until they are arrested and brought to justice," the commissioner said.

He urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, calling for cooperation with security agencies and the timely reporting of suspicious movements or activities.

Further details were provided by the Irigwe Development Association, which said the victims, identified as Nancy Monday, Nuhu Isaiah, Henry Dah, Zongo Sunday and Tarma Monday, were attacked near ECWA Church, Tudun Wada at about 9:30 pm on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Sam Jugo, the association said the killings came barely four days after the death of Abbas Musa, an Irigwe native who was shot inside his residence on Monday, February 23.

The group bemoaned what it described as persistent attacks on Irigwe communities and questioned why suspects were rarely apprehended despite the presence of security operatives in the area.

While condemning the violence, the association appealed to residents to remain law-abiding and avoid reprisals, even amid what it termed unprovoked assaults on people and property.
