Ilorin Court Jails Man for S£xual Abuse of Five-Year-Old Girl


A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has sentenced a 22-year-old man, Ishaq AbdulRazaq, to 18 months’ imprisonment for the s£xual abuse and exploitation of a five-year-old girl.

The offence, which occurred on 21 July 2025 in the Gaa-Odota area of Ilorin, involved the defendant luring and s£xually abusing the minor. 

The case was brought under Section 32(2) of the Child Rights Law of Kwara State, which criminalises the s£xual exploitation of children.

Following a detailed review of the evidence presented, the presiding judge, Justice Oba Muritala Folorunsho, found AbdulRazaq guilty as charged.

During allocutus, defence counsel Dr Bunmi Bewaji appealed for leniency, describing the convict as a remorseful first-time offender who had displayed willingness to reform.

However, in delivering his judgment, Justice Folorunsho imposed a custodial sentence of one and a half years.

This judgment serves as a stern warning to perpetrators of child abuse and exploitation that the Kwara State judiciary will not tolerate such heinous crimes,” the judge declared.

He commended the efforts of law enforcement agencies and the Ministry of Justice in securing justice for the young victim and her family. 

The judge also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant in safeguarding children from s£xual predators.

Justice Folorunsho concluded by encouraging victims of abuse to speak out, reiterating the state government’s commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of every child.
